Yoga therapy according to Dr. Vishwas Mandlik can be explained as follows: “The therapeutic employment of Yoga entails the application of Yogic practices for the purpose of curing illnesses, herein defined as disorders or dis-eases arising in any part or system of the human body.”

As there are different methods and concepts that Yoga works hand in hand with to treat disorders in the body like Ayurveda, Naturopathy, Homeopathy, Allopathy, etc., we might ask ourselves - what is the difference? The definition of “Yoga” is union, body, mind, and spiritual being with the Divine, Infinite, Universe, so Yoga therapy will unite certain methods and concepts to achieve maximal health and well-being.

Our bodies are aging every day and this perfectly designed system we have will inevitably come across malfunctions, have pain, bruises, aches, diseases, or feel different than it used to. It is our duty to take care of ourselves and invest in our health, make sure we pour the deserved affection into our body system to function properly.

The initial Yoga therapy session is an assessment of where a practitioner currently is in terms of health and what wants to be improved. From limited movement, post-surgery, enhancing and achieving performance progress or overcoming illness. Then we come up to a reasonable and easy-to-follow time frame either a 5-week to a 3-month or even a 6-month commitment during which we will start implementing Yogic practices.

With its individual approach Yoga therapy is tailored to specific requirements, needs and preferences a practitioner has. It focuses on practice and long-term lifestyle changes.

Two individuals suffering from diabetes or hip injury will not have the same treatment. Their bodies are unique, genetics, environments, behaviors, routines…everything is different, so the approach needs to be unique in order to achieve the best results.
